agenda: Heidelberg, Germany to London, England
distance: 300 miles
travel time: 1 hour
Arrival in London was well overdue. We were getting a bit road weary and had longed for some friendly faces. Luckily our friends Tyler and Natalie were able to satisfy our craving. After the warmest of welcomes, we had a super dinner and charged up for the next day of London touring. Our first stop was Hyde Park where I was coaxed into a row boat. Look at the gun show I was putting on! Chris rowing
Equitable in all things, I sat back and let Cindy row for a bit too. I like this women's lib thing! It actually worked best when we rowed in tandem. We raced several other fools and wound up leaving them sloshing around in our wake! Cindy rowing
Before disembarking, we took a picture of ourselves and our vanquished opponents. Notice none were left in the water. Yeah!! self in a boat
New York's got pigeons. London has geese. These monsters were all over the place. Natalie and I contemplate if Tyler would like to have goose for dinner. We decided no. Sorry Tyler. goose hunting
Queen Victoria, so distraught over the death of her beloved Prince Albert, built this fantastic monument which was supposed to go on top of the music hall. Sadly, it was so ornate and heavy, it couldn't be placed on the roof. prince albert monument
We visited a palace, Princess Di's palace actually, near the park which had a royal hidden garden. Natalie walks towards the light! natalie light garden
And here we are at the gardens. Secret gardens are fun. Put that on my house wish list. self at the garden
The park also contained a statue of Peter Pan. Natalie is trying to find the way to never never land. natalie and peter
Cindy at the gates of Buckingham Palace. You can see the royal guard in the background, just over her right shoulder. buckingham palace
Chris at the gates of Buckingham Palace. I tried to take this fence ornament off, thinking it would make for some fabulous "bling," but those English know how to weld, and the royal guard have pretty good aim. fence bling
Cindy and some big clock tower thing. People say it's famous or something? I saw a really cool lighter that was shaped like it. Cindy and Big Ben
Just me, staning on a bridge, in the middle of traffic, for your viewing pleasure. The London Eye ferris wheel is in the background. It's tall, so you know what's coming. chris london eye
Westminster Abby, the line was absurd, so we didn't bother. Maybe Blues Traveler were plaing a concert? See John Popper lower center? Maybe? westminster abby
St. Paul's cathedral was much more impressive than Westminster Abby. We walked into the building and then decided not to pay the 20 bucks each to walk around the church. Maybe next time. We were happy to have our picture, it'll last longer. st pauls cathedral
There are a ton of bridges criscrossing the Thames River. Here we have Cindy, Tyler and Natalie on the Blackfriars Bridge. group friars
Okay, remember that high place in London I was talking about earlier. Here's a close up. Notice there is no second support on this puppy. I begin to seriously question the structural integrity of this thing. external eye
I think I was the only one sweating it. Natalie and Tyler look cool as cucumbers and happy as bunnies as we rise up above London. eye tyler and natalie
Meanwhile, in the center of the pod, furtherest from every window, I clench the bench and wait for the ride to finish. We're only about half way at this point. chris on the eye
Well, okay, I had to get one good picture. Tyler climbed onto a bench to get it, freaking me out in the process, but I think it was worth it in the end. us in the eye
