| We set out on our own again, this time heading to the coastal town of Stonehaven. A short train ride from Aberdeen, this town reminded me a lot of the little coastal communities in New England. This is a view from the boardwalk (and yes, it was real boards!). | ![]() |
| Most coastal villages have their harbor. Here is Stonehaven's. Not as luxurious as the French Riveria, but cute in its own special way. | ![]() |
| This is one of the *worst* pictures of me. My facial expression says something like "my tummy hurts" even though I am very content at this point. | ![]() |
| We strolled past the harbor and up the hillside to a point that overlooked the village. We paused for a self portrait with Stonehaven and beach in the background. | ![]() |
| Maybe one of my favorite pictures. It's sunny! We walked about 3 miles along the cliffs along the shore to get to the next castle. In Scotland, they have a law which is called the right to roam. Basically, it says that you can walk wherever you want, just as long as you don't break fences and don't harass livestock. It was hard for me to keep from harassing the livestock, but I managed to restrain myself and we continued roaming towards the castle. | ![]() |
| The first cliff picture where the castle lives. You can just barely see a tower peeking out on the right hand side. | ![]() |
| Continued panorama of the castle. You can kind of make it out on the hill near the coast. Talk about a view! | ![]() |
| Cindy in the ruins. No jail this time, I believe this is one of the lookout rooms. | ![]() |
| Here is a self portrait infront of the blacksmith's workshop. Notice how the weather has gone from sunny and blue to grey and threatening. We still have a 3 mile hike along the rugged cliffs back to town. This should explain the worried look on my face. | ![]() |
