Being in a mode where I am considering a career switch, I am starting to think more about what it means to work and the different employment opportunities out there. I was sitting in traffic (gotta love socal) and watching some of the construction workers. I don't think I could hack the physical strain of being a worker, but this one guy seemed to have a pretty sweet gig. He was working a back hoe like this:


Aside from digging in the dirt and rolling over piles of stuff, this guy was smoking a cigarette, had a cool can of Coke in his cup holder, an awesome San Diego Charger hard hat and was chowing down on a hoagie or some sort of sandwich. To top it all off, he had a big grin on his face. How cool if my cubicle allowed smoking (not that I smoke), had cupholders on the chairs and required hard hats. People would go nuts. I think if the government is so worried about attracting more people to technology fields, they should start by reworking their image from engineering geeks to something more exciting and enticing?
