It's the final countdown
So it's a little less than 2 weeks until the big day. I am very excited to see my family and friends. It will be a great weekend for sure. I was able to find a very nice present for my bride and we've only a "few" (hundred) details to take care of before the day. Rent-a-priest looks like it may have come through with a celebrant for the East Coast service. Finding someone for a Sunday morning in the summer to perform an interfaith service (not wedding) was a lot tougher than I had anticipated. Thank the Lord for the Internet.
Recent media consumption:
Be
I was really dubious on this album based on his last few offerings, but it seems his recent split with Erykah Badu and new relationship with Kanye West helped bring to clout back to this Chi-town spitter. No real hardcore "bangers" on this album, just some real nice jazzy tunes to get your groove on.
The Bone Collector
Not the best movie I've seen. Denzel has been much better in other features. This thriller / crime drama has it's typical twists and turns that will keep you interested, but in the end feeling like maybe you could have been doing something else with the last 2 hours.
GTA: San Andreas
Okay, so this has been my guilty pleasure for the last few months. I would not allow anyone under the age of 16 or 17 to get their hands on this puppy where you play Carl Johnson, gangsta who returns to his 'hood to reclaim the streets. I was highly impressed with the game play, story line and scenery. For anyone who has been west, the rendering of San Fiero (aka San Francisco), the Sherman Dam (aka Hoover Dam), and Las Venturas (aka Las Vegas) are uncanny. It was fun to fly around these areas and wreak some havoc. Put the kids to bed, and have a little fun with this one.
Ali
Gotta admit, there were points in this movie where I was stirred. Will Smith did a nice job playing the boxing legend and delivered some heartfelt, Ali monologue/rant. I really enjoyed the portrayal of the relationship between Ali and Howard Cosell. It was too bad Will was up against Denzel in Training Day for the 2002 Best Male Actor. He may have won it a year in earlier or later?
Teach Yourself Speed Reading
In preparation for my LSAT, I decided to try and get my reading speed up. While this book did not have much in the way of test speed reading, it did offer some valuable tips on how to stay on top of the volumes of reading that school curricula or work can pile on. It focused a lot on making priorities for reading and paring the volume into manageable, meaningful chunks. Gotta work on making mind maps. Maybe I'll post one for the next book I read with her technique?
