Oh give me a home
The buffalo are definitely roaming in Wyoming.
At first I was a bit skeptical about the whole mid-west thing. The sights are unbelieveable. Mountains bigger than I have ever seen, forests greener than I've ever hiked, and I now know where the mountain fresh scent was inspired.
Camping for five consecutive nights was tiring and trying. My hips were very sore from laying on the ground, even though we had mats and a comforter under us. Despite the rain, we stayed dry and had a good time camping.
Some signs you may be in the mid-west:
- Hardee's become Carl's Juniors
- Diesel is the preferred option of powering your truck/car, bike, lawn equipment
- Red vines can be purchased at the candy rack
- Residents have equal number of horses, trucks/cars, guns and kids
- Soda becomes Pop
The other interesting thing I found myself doing as we passed the half way point of our trip is rethinking the answer to the question "Where are you from?" In some ways I will always be from New Jersey. But I am also from Philadelphia. I think the better question is "Where are you going?" Looking forward, trying to see what will come next or what your dreams are. As I try and answer this question, I find myself doing a lot of soul searching. What is really important to someone who gets the chance to recreate themself? What are the ideal characteristics in a job, what types of activities will I get involved in, who will be my new friends, what will be my new peeves? All will resolve soon, but much of it is in my power to control. This is the fact that pleases me most.
Posted pictures from a bunch of places:
South Dakota
Yellowstone
Salt Lake City
I am continuing to learn I have picked a good partner for life. The trip has been one not just of physical changes, but emotional and personal as well. Off to the woods again for a week.
